How to use the fancy text generator
These come almost entirely from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which Unicode added so that a mathematician could write a bold vector and an italic variable as distinct characters with distinct meanings. Using them as decoration works because they are real characters that survive a copy and paste anywhere, and it costs three things worth knowing about: a screen reader cannot read them, search engines and site search will not match them against the plain word, and some platforms strip or reject them in usernames. For a display name they are usually fine; for anything you want found, they are not.
Questions
It swaps each letter for a different Unicode character that happens to look styled. No font is involved, which is why it survives a paste.
No. These are mathematical and phonetic codepoints, so a screen reader announces them symbol by symbol or skips them. A styled name is effectively unreadable to anyone using one.
No. A font changes how ordinary letters look; this swaps in genuinely different characters. That is why it survives a paste into a bio, and why it breaks search.
The device has no glyph for those codepoints. Older Android and some Windows versions are missing several of these blocks.
Usually. Instagram accepts most of these in the bio and name fields, though it rejects some in usernames.
Often yes. Many of these are outside the basic range and count as two units in a platform’s character limit even though they look like one.
