Car age calculator
The age of a vehicle from its first registration date, in years, months and days. Registration date, not model year; they are frequently a year apart.
How to use the car age calculator
The distinction matters financially. Manufacturers release a model year ahead of the calendar year, so a car sold in late 2024 may be a 2025 model, and a car built in 2024 may not have been registered until 2025 if it sat on a forecourt. Valuation, warranty and inspection schedules almost always run from first registration rather than manufacture or model year — and a car registered on 31 December versus 1 January is a full model year apart on paper for the sake of one day. Depreciation is front-loaded: the steepest loss is in the first year, and by year three most cars have lost roughly half their value, which is why the three-year-old used market is the value sweet spot.
