The number format is the thing that goes wrong: wa.me wants the full international number with no plus sign, no spaces, no dashes and no leading zero. A Dutch mobile written 06 12 34 56 78 becomes 31612345678. Get that wrong and the link opens WhatsApp with an error rather than a chat. Worth knowing that the message is pre-filled and not sent; the person still taps send, which is what makes this useful for support and ordering flows rather than intrusive. This works for any WhatsApp account; it does not require a Business account.
