Converts decimal hours to hours and minutes. The conversion is minutes divided by sixty, which is why 7.75 hours is 7 hours 45 minutes and never 7 hours 75.
How to use the decimal hours converter
This is the single most common payroll arithmetic error, and it goes both ways. Reading 7.45 as seven hours forty-five minutes overstates by 18 minutes; writing 7 hours 45 minutes as 7.45 understates by the same. Over a five-day week that is an hour and a half either way. The quarter-hour values are worth memorising because they cover most timesheets: 0.25 is 15 minutes, 0.5 is 30, 0.75 is 45. Everything else is the minutes divided by sixty. 20 minutes is 0.33, 40 minutes is 0.67.
