Character counter
Type something and the most frequent words show up here.
The count updates on every keystroke, both with and without spaces, alongside the limits people usually need it for. Nothing is sent anywhere. The counting happens in the page.
How to count characters
Which count you want depends entirely on who is asking. Most social platforms and SMS count characters including spaces; academic and publishing limits are more often "characters excluding spaces", which is roughly a sixth lower for ordinary prose. There is a subtler trap with anything non-Latin: this counts what a person would call characters, so an emoji is one, but many systems count the underlying code units instead and see two or more. If a field rejects text this tool says is short enough, that mismatch is almost always the reason.
Questions
It shows both. Social and SMS limits normally include spaces; academic word limits often exclude them.
Usually emoji or accented characters. This counts what you would call a character; some systems count code units, so an emoji reads as two.
280 for a standard post. Some scripts, including Japanese and Chinese, count double.
Not a practical one. It runs on your device, so a whole chapter is fine.
